    South Yorkshire Floods

Following severe flooding in the Sheffield and Rotherham areas, South Yorkshire Emergency Services mobilised DV Howells response units to assist in the emergency. The Company's work at the Ulley Reservoir, nr Rotherham, where 2 x 600 tonnes per hour pumps were used to assist the fire and rescue services in reducing the rising water levels which threatened the integrity of the reservoir's dam, thus preventing localised flooding, including a section of the nearby M1 Motorway.

DV Howells staff, working round the clock, also proved invaluable in helping South Yorkshire Fire Brigade remove flood water from Kirk Branwith Pumping Station, the village of Fishlakes, Toll Bar and other areas. Some of the team met with HRH Prince Charles at Toll Bar during his visit to the region, inspecting the damage and devastation, pictures of which appeared in some national daily newspapers.

The team of 12 specialists were drawn from Perth, Huddersfield and Milford Haven, 3 of the 8 response bases DV Howells has located throughout the UK.
